Despite DAP's frequent accusation that the Federal Govt is overspending and "boros", the reverse is actually true.
The DAP Penang Govt's spending in 2017 is almost five times the amount (or a jump of 377%) of the last budget by the BN Penang Govt in 2008.
Since the Penang Govt's operating revenue has remained flat, this big increase in spending is funded by ever increasing sale of limited state assets such as stake in companies (Pulau Jerejak), sale of land (too numerous to mention) and sale of land reclamation rights (the Gurney drive project and the South Island 4000 acres reclamation).
During the same period, the Federal Govt's operating expenditure grew only 30.2% as the Federal Govt has continued to reduce its budget deficit every year towards its goal of a balanced and sustainable budget.
